Radiation Oncology (Radiotherapy) is a clinical specialty that employs radiation to treat cancer and other medical (Sometimes benign) conditions. Two types of Radiation Therapy are available; External Radiation Therapy and Internal Radiation Therapy. External Radiation Therapy utilizes high-energy penetrating wave or particle beams that are used to damage or destroy cancerous cells. Internal Radiation Therapy employs the use of low-activity radioactive implants or ‘seeds’ to deliver radiation to local tissue structures. Current methods of Radiation Therapy include the use of 3-dimensional data collection, the use of computer aided treatment planning, and the use of highly accurate radiation delivery equipment. The Department runs OPD services twice a week and a Level -1 Day care service wherein push-in chemotherapy is given to the patients and other palliative procedures are being performed. The Department actively participates in various academic activities/events of the college.
