Dental Profession in India is changing at a rapid pace in the fields of practice teaching and research. There is a positive contribution by all concerned towards these changes. It is essential for every professional to understand these changes happening and update their clinical skills. The Department of Dentistry is delivering quality level diagnostic and interventional care encompassing all Oral and Maxillofacial diseases. As soon the Department of Dentistry took over, Department performed its first surgery under General Anaesthesia in South Kashmir and team Dentistry is focused to increase the level of patient care, developing the Department as a State of art in all aspects and to start high quality research activity in the department. GMC is steady but surely treading the right path and certainly aiming high for excellent outcome. Department is the leading tertiary care centre in the South Kashmir and catering the patients not only from South Kashmir but from surrounding areas like Kishtwar, Ramban, Banihal etc. Department is facing a challenge of managing patients suffering from Hepatitis B, C and medically compromised patients and lots have to be done for such patients. Dental X-ray unit has to be upgraded many folds. Department needs a Continuous up gradation, its facilities in term of infrastructure, manpower and equipment to help pace with modern medical science as well as ensure the medical education to undergraduates as per the norms laid down by Medical Council of India.
