DEPARTMENT OF OPHTHALMOLOGY

Department of Ophthalmology is located in MMABM Hospital Janglatmandi Anantnag, which is the associated Hospital of Govt Medical College Anantnag.The department of Ophthalmology came into existence in January 2019 with appointment of first faculty member and subsequently other faculty member joined in due course. . The department is running 24x7 Ophthalmic services routine as well as emergency. The department is a teriatary care center with almost nil referral rate. . The department has a 12 bed strength with almost all Ophthalmic surgeries being routine from Lid to Retina. Lid surgeries, Squint Surgeries, Cataract (Phacoemulsification), Glaucoma services, Retinal procedures are being performed. Intravitreal injections which are an important part of Ophthalmic services for which patients used to travel outside district are being done routinely now. . The department has slit lamp imagining system, Non contact Tonometer, B-Scan, Phacoemulsification unit and Nd- Yag laser and department is being upgraded to meet with the patient demand.

Vision

The vision of the department of Ophthalmology GMC Anantnag is to be center of excellance in the field of Ophthalmology with all services of the eye related disorders/ diseases to be provided under one roof. The department will try to provide highest quality of education/ training to both under graduates and post graduates. The department wants to become regional institute of Ophthalmology owing to the high influx of patients from South Kashmir and adjoining districts.
