Government Medical College, Anantnag, J&K.

Pathology is considered to be the backbone of medical sciences as is rightly derived from the Greek words “pathos” meaning “disease” and “logos” meaning “a treatise”. It primarily concerns with the cause, origin and nature of the disease and involves examination of blood, tissues, organs, body fluids and autopsy in order to study and diagnose diseases. It is not a hidden fact that with every passing minute there are new advances evolving in the subject. From the era of morphology alone, it has been rapidly progressing with advanced diagnostic modalities where morphology no more is an exclusive tool of diagnosis. With advents like Immuno Histo Chemistry, Flow Cytometry to Cytogenetics to Molecular Methods that include a plethora of techniques from Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR), Multiplex PCR, DNA microarray, in site Hybridization, in situ RNA sequencing, DNA sequencing, Next Generation Sequencing, antibody based immunofluorescence assays, the branch is ever expanding. The aim of the Department of Pathology at Government Medical College, Anantnag is to match the standards of the best so that we could excel in all aspects of Pathology ranging from prompt accurate diagnosis in all the domains of Pathology that includes Histopathology, Cytopathology, Hematopathology and Clinical Pathology to the current Competency Based Teaching methods of the undergraduate student and a constant involvement in Scientific Research. We are fortunate enough to have a very eminent faculty who are ready to give their body and soul for the development of the Department.
