GMC ANANTNAG

The Department of General Surgery is a major clinical speciality and allied specialities at Govt. Medical College Anantnag dedicated to provide best comprehensive surgical care to the people of valley especially south Kashmir which has a huge catchment area.

GMC Anantnag started in year March 2019 with Professor (Dr) Mumtaz Din Wani as the Head of the department. The department flourished under the Guidance of Professor (Dr) Mumtaz Din Wani with the support of his colleagues in the department

The department grew from performing basic open general surgery procedures to advanced laparoscopic surgeries, Malignancies, Urology, Hepato-biliary and Neurosurgical procedures.

The department currently has a bed strength of 90 including the high dependency and ICU ward. The department is committed to serve outdoor, indoor and accident trauma patients round the clock. Roughly around 200 major and 150 minor surgeries are performed every month. In addition to Gen Surgeries, specialities surgeries like CVTS, Surgical Gastro-entrology, Neurosurgery, urology& paediatric surgeries are also performed routinely. The department is committed to research and academic activities besides the routine work to bring GMC Anantnag to the level of being one of the topmost medical institution of the country
