Teaching and Training
The Department of Pediatrics feels exceptional with a full-time faculty of senior consultants including One Professor, One Associate Professor, Three Assistant Professors, Pediatric Specialists, senior / junior residents, well versed nursing and paramedical staff. In addition to this, is an indispensable workforce of counselors and social workers besides technical, and ministerial who work as a cohesive unit in providing best possible patient care to the Pediatric population of entire south Kashmir extending up to Pir-Panjal region, as well as teaching, clinical guidance and counselling services to Post graduate (DCH) , graduate (MBBS), nursing and paramedical students.
Pediatric and Neonatal services
The department is running 24×7 Pediatric and Neonatal services, catering many districts of South Kashmir including Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Banihal area of Ramban District. Our range of services includes treating premature infants (sometimes smaller than a pound), full-term new-borns, toddlers, children, and adolescents. We additionally offer emergency care in a specialized SNCU, Out-patient and In-patient services, Lab services, patient education/ Counselling and other services.
The department has a fully functional 12 bedded Special New-born Care Unit (SNCU) for infants up to 01 month of age that is in the process of being upgraded to a Level 3 Neonatal ICU. The Pediatric Ward consists of 14 General Beds out of which four (4) beds are dedicated as High Dependency Unit (HDU) where care is provided to children in want of more intensive monitoring.
Our approximate daily OPD is 600-800 patients and 200-250 during night hours, where patients get best possible consultations from senior consultants. The Nutritional Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) aided by the National Health Mission (NHM) provides nutritional guidance and diet charts to children suffering from Protein Energy Malnutrition including Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM).
DEIC services
The DEIC has a patient referral base from all Medical blocks of Anantnag district. Registered patients are provided with consultations and free of cost medicines for Chronic Diseases.
OPD services
